Our take
Post-apocalyptic arena fights under dragon-blooded overlords
The dragons saved humanity and left ash behind, plus a gorgeous, ruthless ruling class descended from them. Anya, one of the scrappy half-bloods they look down on, gets caged and thrown into their fighting pit. Readers like her as a tough heroine with a protective streak, and her friendship with a fellow captive is a standout. The slow-burn why-choose romance is just getting started here, and the book moves fast. We'd hand this to readers who want a quick, free, action-first start to a finished four-book series. Expect thin worldbuilding and a fair amount of exposition-by-dialogue.
